Large-scale flood rescue effort launched in Avoyelles Parish
BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Firefighters and agents with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries assisted in the process of rescuing people trapped in their homes due to rising water in Avoyelles Parish Thursday.
As of 12:30 p.m., a large-scale rescue effort was still underway as heavy rainfall continued.

The parish, south of Alexandria, faced multiple tornado warnings throughout the morning hours Thursday as the remnants of Tropical Storm Arthur moved through
Radar estimates indicate 15 to 20 inches of rain have fallen in parts of that parish, with even higher totals in some areas.
“We’ve been informed that evacuations are being organized for portions of Plaucheville, Moreauville, and Bordelonville and the Red Cross will be opening a shelter in Avoyelles,” the National Weather Service (NWS) said in a statement.
The NWS said the Moreauville Community Center will serve as a shelter.
