NHC monitoring a new area of interest in the Gulf
Rainy impacts possible for parts of the Gulf Coast later this weekend
SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) - The National Hurricane Center has highlighted an area in the Gulf where organized tropical development is possible within the next seven days.
A pressure trough is expected to dip south over Florida later this week, which could lead to an organized tropical system. For now, the chance of it developing is low (20%). Whether it becomes organized or not, the main impacts will be rain for parts of Florida. Several inches of rain will be possible across north-central Florida, with the highest totals remaining out over open waters.
The big question is -- do we need to watch this in the ArkLaTex? It never hurts to keep an eye on the weather, but for now, it does not appear likely that this will move our direction or bring any impacts to the ArkLaTex. An upper-level trough will be moving across the northeast United States, which should steer this, organized or not, over Florida and into the Atlantic.
If anything changes, we will make sure to give you the FIRST ALERT to the latest!
