NWS confirms 15 tornadoes from Arthur storms in Louisiana, Mississippi
The latest confirmed tornadoes touched down in Luling and Terrebonne during the June 18 severe weather outbreak
NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The National Weather Service has now confirmed 15 tornadoes from last week’s severe weather outbreak tied to Arthur, after adding three more tornado tracks in Louisiana and Mississippi.
The updated list includes tornadoes in Montegut, Luling and the Dedeaux-Lizana area of south Mississippi and Bayou des Allemands during the June 18 outbreak, according to an updated NWS damage survey.
In Montegut, an EF0 tornado crossed Crochetville Road around 1:02 a.m. June 18. The tornado had estimated peak winds of 75 mph, a path length of 0.17 miles and a maximum width of 75 yards. NWS said the tornado may have started earlier, but part of the path was inaccessible to survey crews and no additional damage reports were received.
In Luling, an EF0 tornado touched down near Santa Cruz Court around 4:54 a.m. June 18. The tornado had estimated peak winds of 70 mph, a path length of 0.18 miles and a maximum width of 25 yards. NWS said only minor tree damage was found, but the damage lined up with a tornado debris signature on radar.
In south Mississippi, an EF1 tornado tracked across Hancock and Harrison counties near the Dedeaux-Lizana area around 8:04 a.m. June 18. The tornado had estimated peak winds of 90 mph, a path length of 6.38 miles and a maximum width of 100 yards. NWS said widespread tree damage was found along the track, including several large trees that were snapped or uprooted. Minor property damage also was reported.
The NWS said the Dedeaux-Lizana tornado likely continued farther northeast, but survey crews were limited by flooded roadways and heavily forested areas.
A 15th tornado was confirmed via satellite near Bayou des Allemands. The National Weather Service said the confirmation remains preliminary, and further updates may be issued in the coming days.
