MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF/Gray News) - A Myrtle Beach detective has lost his job after an arrest warrant says he pointed a gun at an officer over microwaved fish.

According to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, Michael DeBiase, 46, was charged Tuesday following a Myrtle Beach Police Department investigation.

According to a warrant, DeBaise confronted an officer at the department about them warming up fish in the microwave and causing an odor in the office.

During the confrontation, DeBiase pulled out and pointed his department-issued gun at the officer.

Myrtle Beach police said DeBiase was placed on administrative leave immediately while investigations were conducted.

The department said its internal investigation identified several policy violations and that it later terminated DeBiase.

“Our employees are entrusted with significant responsibility, and with that comes an expectation of professionalism, integrity, sound judgment, and respect for others,” the Myrtle Beach Police Department said in a statement.

DeBiase was booked into the J. Reuben Long Detention Center.
