The police department says Powell was diagnosed back in October of 2025 and faced the cancer with “strength and determination.”

During his time with the Hope Police Department, Powell worked in communications and patrol. The department says he was a dedicated public servant who took pride in what he did.

“His professionalism, commitment, and positive attitude made him an asset to the department and a trusted colleague and friend to many,” the department said.
