Arkansas Education Freedom Account program now accepting applications
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KAIT) - The Arkansas Department of Education announced Tuesday it is now accepting applications for its Education Freedom Account program.
To participate, students must be an Arkansas resident and eligible to enroll in a public school.
About the program
The program was established in 2023 when Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders signed Arkansas LEARNS into law. Education Freedom Accounts provide financial assistance to families whose children are enrolled in private, parochial or homeschool settings.
This is the program’s fourth year and the second year it has included universal eligibility.
“Expanding the program to universal eligibility last year opened more doors for every student to learn in the environment where they can succeed,” Sanders said. “When parents are empowered with choices, students are positioned to thrive in the classroom and beyond.”
Secretary of Education Jacob Oliva said the program addresses the varied needs of students across the state.
“We know that a one size fits all approach doesn’t meet the needs of Arkansas students and families,” Oliva said. “Every student has unique strengths and challenges, which is why offering multiple education pathways is essential.”
