BOSSIER CITY, La. (KSLA) - Following the death of Bossier Parish Police Jury’s District 1 Juror Bob Brotherton in January, voters will decide who will fill out the term.

The race was between two candidates, Lynn Beaty and Brent Moreland.

With 100% reporting, Lynn Beaty totalled 476 votes, winning over Brent Morland’s 398.

Moreland is an Elm Grove resident who’s an international representative for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers where he’s worked for the last 27 years.

Moreland’s biggest priorities for District 1 are proper infrastructure, public safety, and responsible growth. Although he has no experience in politics, he says he’s bringing fresh ideas and an open mind.

Beaty is a Haughton resident and the owner of the Beaty Logging Company. When it comes to the timber and construction industry, he has nearly 50 years under his belt.

His big priorities for District 1 are becoming business-friendly for locals, supporting law enforcement, and encouraging unity.

Beaty is also new to politics. He says his age and life experience add wisdom.

Both candidates say they had a calling to run for police jury after Bob Brotherton passed away.

The district’s police jury representative is in charge of road maintenance, infrastructure, public safety, and more.

About “Coach” Bob Brotherton

Brotherton was born and raised in Bossier Parish, and devoted his professional career to education, coaching, and service of his parish.

Dedicated to sports, Brotherton was a lifetime member of the Louisiana High School Athletics Association member, and was chosen 10 times to be track coach of the year. He served not only as a head track coach, but also as the assistant football coach, a classroom teacher, and a driver’s education instructor.

Brotherton taught at Haughton High School and was an adjunct professor at the Bossier Parish Community College. At BPCC, he instructed first responders in basic and advanced life-saving courses.

Brotherton had served five terms while on the Bossier Parish Police Jury and was named vice president in 2016, then moved up to president in 2017.

“Coach Bob Brotherton was a remarkable leader and a dedicated public servant whose impact on Bossier Parish will be felt for generations,” said Bossier Parish Attorney Patrick Jackson. “Throughout his years of service on the Bossier Parish Police Jury, Coach Brotherton embodied the values of integrity, humility, and servant leadership. He never sought recognition or praise, choosing instead to work tirelessly behind the scenes to improve the lives of those in our community. Much like the athletes he once coached, his colleagues and fellow jurors knew they could always rely on him for principled, steady guidance and unwavering commitment to the betterment of Bossier Parish. His legacy of selfless service and steadfast leadership will be deeply missed.”
