NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The tenth named system of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season has formed.

Tropical Storm Jerry formed on Tuesday morning in the central Atlantic.

It has sustained winds of 45 miles per hour and is moving to the west at 24 miles per hour, according to the 10 AM advisory from the National Hurricane Center.

Interests in the Lesser Antilles should closely monitor the system as it could impact or make a close pass to the islands later this week.

Many of the hurricane models bring Jerry north before it impacts land as it turns around a weak area of high pressure in the central Atlantic, in agreement with the forecast track from the NHC.

Jerry is forecast to intensify through the week into a hurricane, and some intensity guidance indicates it may make a run for a major storm.

Most of the storms that have formed in the Atlantic this year have taken a similar path to Jerry north of the Caribbean.

So far this year, no storms have formed or entered the Caribbean Sea.

The last time there were no storms in the Caribbean was in 1997.

This hurricane season is still running a bit behind schedule on the number of named storms.

Normally, by October 2, there would be 11 named storms. As of October 7, we have had 10 named storms, with the most recent one being Tropical Storm Jerry. Any organized system that is tropical storm strength or greater becomes a named storm.

We are even with the seasonal average number of major hurricanes, which is 3, typically reached by late October.
