BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - The WAFB I-TEAM learned a Baton Rouge Police officer patrolling in the area of Choctaw Drive discharged his weapon amid a flurry of activity that left two groups shooting at one another Sunday morning.

Sources told the I-TEAM it’s unclear how many rounds the officer fired, but bullets from his weapon did not hit anyone. Bullets from the groups firing at one another left one woman dead and five others hurt.

The shooting killed 25-year-old Prenesha Wagner.

“She was very humble and loving, just a sweet child, Lisa Wagner, Prenesha’s mom, said.

Her other daughter, Claudia, was with her when she was shot.

“We pulled up in the parking lot,” Claudia Wagner, Prenesha’s sister, said. “We see nothing but boys walking around with guns. We back there to get out. We get out, and then they got to shooting. We hid under the car, thinking she was under the car. I unlocked the door and found her dead on the ground.”

Those same sources said the City-Parish was well aware of the problems that had been occurring at “The Big Blue house” located at 3535 Choctaw Drive. Posts on Facebook reveal that a man named Calvin Leverson runs Allnite Entertainment, which promoted parties at that location. Leverson has a lengthy arrest history, and sources said he would not be licensed by the city’s Alcohol Beverage Control Board to run any bar-type businesses in the city. Secretary of State records show Allnite Entertainment has been inactive with the state, and its business license was revoked on May 15, 2024.

Leverson said he did nothing wrong, and the type of business he operates does not require a permit.

“I just want to clear my name,” Leverson said. “It didn’t happen over there. I’m sorry it happened to that young lady. But I wasn’t involved with it.

Leverson said he showed up at his place of business and found an eviction notice on his door Monday morning.

Videos obtained by the I-TEAM from the scene show people running and screaming, and dozens of rounds being fired in quick succession.

The shooting happened around 1:30 a.m. Sunday.

Radio traffic obtained by the I-TEAM captured the dramatic moments.

“Dispatch to all units. Dispatch to all units. Be advised at Choctaw and North 38th...Choctaw and North 38th, BRPD units are currently taking rounds. Advised that they have one subject at gunpoint. Another hit.”

Chief TJ Morse said a group of women was fighting in a parking lot near the club. That’s when he says a group of men then joined, and a shootout erupted.

WAFB has reached out to BRPD, the City-Parish, for responses to the shooting over the weekend.

If you would like to assist the family with funeral expenses, a GoFundMe page has been set up.
