New Boston city council announces new police chief

New Boston, TX, officially has a new police chief

NEW BOSTON, TX (KSLA) - New Boston Chief of Police announced during city council meeting Tuesday night.

Garry McCrary has been appointed to chief of the New Boston Police Department.

McCrary was the interim chief since former chief Tony King was terminated by the council in April of 2018.

King was terminated from the position after being accused of racism and police misconduct.

The incident stemmed from police Lieutenant Johnny Milwood alleging he was fired after he threatened to exposed police misconduct in the police department.

King says Milwood was fired due to complaints by fellow officers.

Milwood has since been reinstated and begins work on Wednesday as a school resource officer.
