SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - The parents of a 7-year-old who drowned in Shreveport's drainage system are suing the city for unspecified damages.
Daysean Jermaine Combest was swept away when he fell into a rain-swollen ditch near his home during heavy rainfall Aug. 1, 2017.
His body was discovered Aug. 3 in a bayou some three miles south of where he disappeared.
The wrongful death petition filed by his parents notes how the drainage ditch in the 3900 block of Orla Avenue feeds into the city's underground culvert system.
The ditch-culvert combination presented an "attractive nuisance" to a young child, the lawsuit argues.
It also alleges that the city knew about the danger posed by the lack of grating or guard at that location and failed to act.
