HOOKS, TX (KSLA) - Police in one East Texas city says they are fortunate no one was injured during a weekend robbery where the store attendant was apparently taken hostage.

It all took place around 2 o'clock Saturday morning at this E-Z Mart convenient store in Hooks Texas.

Police say when the first officer answered the alarm two armed suspects were still inside the store.

The suspects reportedly saw the lone officer on the parking lot of the business.

Police say the bandits pointed their weapons to the head of the store clerk and the three exited the store and left the scene on foot to a wooded area.

According to police the clerk was apparently let go 15 miles away in Texarkana.

"In situations like this with one officer on the scene and two armed gunmen there are hundreds of different ways a situation like that can play out," said Hooks Police Chief Keith Schutte. "The majority of the scenario don't play out well for the clerk and the way this played out the only way it could be better is if the suspects were in custody right now."

Hooks police Chief Keith Schutte said security video captured the car the masked bandits use to make their getaway. He said the car appears to be a late model light-colored Buick Lacrosse.

Anyone with information is urged to call law enforcement.
