Missing BAFB airman found

BARKSDALE AIR FORCE BASE, LA (KSLA) - That missing Barksdale Air Force Base airman is back in a Shreveport hospital.

Officers found him at 8:15 a.m. Sunday.

Airman 1st Class Robert M. Mayfield was sleeping on a park bench at Alexander Avenue at East Gregg Street in Shreveport.

"Mr. Mayfield did not require any type of medical attention and stated he was fine," Detective Rodney J. Stewart said.

The 24-year-old was taken to a Shreveport hospital, where he voluntarily readmitted himself, authorities said.

Mayfield was reported as missing after last being seen Wednesday morning near Brentwood Hospital at Marshall Street at Highland Avenue near downtown.

He is a 2014 graduate of East Texas Christian Academy in Tyler, Texas, who graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland.
