DESOTO PARISH, LA (KSLA) - A Catuna man is behind bars after deputies found nine dogs suffering in the summer heat.
Otis C. Williams Jr., 35, is charged with nine counts of aggravated cruelty to animals.
Deputies were called about a complaint of several dogs in poor health, according to a news release.
When DeSoto Animal Control and deputies arrived at the residence, they could see three dogs the road several that were severely malnourished.
On the property, they found six more. All nine dogs appeared to be severely deprived of adequate water, food or shelter during the 100+ degree weather.
One of the dogs was found with a severe facial injury, while the eight other dogs were found bound to a tree by heavy chains.
The dogs were taken into custody by DeSoto Parish Animal Control, a notice was left at the home.
Williams contacted the DeSoto Parish Sheriff's Office wanting to know why his dogs were taken, according to a news release. A deputy returned to the residence to question Williams.
He insisted to police that he regularly feeds and waters the dogs and that nothing was wrong with them — however, he also told authorities the dogs had been not fed in three days.
Williams was then placed under arrest and sent to the DeSoto Parish Detention Center
