Shreveport police arrest one of their own

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - A Shreveport police officer is free after being booked on a charge of simple battery.
Cpl. Joshua Mayfield, 39, of the 300 block of Wallace, was arrested on a warrant at 9:15 a.m. Thursday, booking records show.
He had been off duty since May 23, when Police Chief Alan Crump put him on paid leave pending an administrative investigation into a verbal dispute between Mayfield and another officer.
That inquiry indicated that Mayfield possibly had broken the law, so Crump ordered a criminal investigation.
Mayfield surrendered himself to authorities at the Shreveport City Jail.
He has been with the Police Department since August 2005.
