SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - Two elderly people were taken to a hospital as firefighters battled a house fire in Shreveport.
They escaped the flames before firefighters arrived, authorities said.
Medics treated them on the scene then took them a hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation, a Fire Department spokesman said
Their injuries are not life-threatening, authorities said.
Also hurt was a firefighter who was overcome by heat. He was treated at the scene of the fire.
The blaze at Pines Road at Yarbrough Road was reported at 8:56 p.m. Sunday, Caddo 911 dispatch records show.
Members of the first unit on the scene could see flames at the garage and heavy smoke from the house.
Firefighters called for additional firefighting and medic units after the initial call.
That's because the fire began in the garage area then spread to the kitchen and attic of the two-story structure, making it more difficult for firefighters to extinguish, the spokesman said.
The Fire Department had as many as 19 units on the scene.
The blaze was declared under control at 10:05 p.m.
Authorities still are investigating the cause.
