CAMPTI, LA (KSLA) - A fire in Natchitoches Parish claimed the life of a child early Friday morning.

Deputies with the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff's Office say the fire happened in the 100 block of Carter Street in Campti and claimed the life of what is believed to be a 10-year-old boy.

The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing by the Fire Marshal's Office with assistance from Fire District 9 and the NPSO.

Investigators were on scene throughout the night photographing and processing the scene looking for clues into the cause of the fire, according to the sheriff's office.

It was a knock on his front door that woke up Douglas Reliford, who lives right next door.

"I looked out the window I couldn't really tell how close the fire was. So, me and my wife came out and seen the camper was about burned up, burnt down then and my shop was on fire."

"He used to come over here and he wanted me to put some air in his bicycle tire for him, you know. Fix his bicycle. Mmm hmm. Sure gonna miss him."

The name of the child is currently being withheld at this time.
