A Heat Advisory has been issued for all of the ArkLaTex on Thursday. The advisory is in effect from Noon until 7pm. Temperatures in the upper 90s to near 100 combined with very humid conditions will lead to dangerous heat conditions, especially for those working outside or people without air conditioning or fans to circulate the air inside their home.

The Heat Index is expected to peak between 105 and 110 during the afternoon hours. The Heat Index is the temperature it will 'feel-like' to your body. Because of the high humidity your body can't cool itself as efficiently via perspiration and the evaporation of that moisture from your skin.

Here are a few ways to lower your risk of being a victim of heat exhaustion or heat stroke:

  • STAY HYDRATED: Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
  • LIMIT OUTDOOR ACTIVITY: Strenuous things like exercising or working in the yard should be done very early in the morning or later in the evening.
  • DRESS APPROPRIATELY: Wear light colored, loose fitting clothing.
  • STAY COOL: Spend the hottest part of the day inside in air conditioning or well circulated air.
