MARSHALL, TX (KSLA) - Services are set for a woman some have described as the "Heart of Marshall."

The funeral for Geraldine Mauthe will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, 300 E. Houston St. in Marshall.

It will be preceded by visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Meadowbrook Funeral Home, 1804 S. Washington Ave. in Marshall.

Members of the community are remembering Mauthe as one of the East Texas city's best volunteers and strongest supporters, a Facebook post states.

She retired as visitor services director in 2016 after eight years at the Marshall Convention & Visitors Bureau.

Mauthe, who in 2015 was selected as the Marshall Chamber of Commerce's employee of the year, is being praised for her smile and her eagerness to help.

She "was a welcoming face to visitors and made a quick friend to everyone she met," the Facebook post continues.

"We are all a little bit dimmer today without our sweet Geraldine."
