DESOTO PARISH, LA (KSLA) - A new state legislative audit found the 42nd Judicial District used a traffic diversion program so much it reduced the amount of money going into DeSoto Parish's criminal justice system.
The audit unveiled that the sheriff's office used to collect fines and court costs for tickets written through the Local Agency Compensated Enforcement, or LACE, program.
Started in March 2017, the DA started paying for LACE details and offered drivers pretrial diversion or PTD.
The audit claims the extensive use of the PTD took money away from the criminal justice system.
