Man shot while mowing backyard; gunman sought
SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - Police say a man was performing the simple task of mowing his backyard when all of a sudden, he felt a sharp pain in his stomach. Now police are searching for a gunman.
Shreveport police say a man was shot while mowing his yard in the 1800 block of Simpkins just after 8:00 Thursday night.
"I heard the shot and it didn't sound like a backfire, it sounded like a small caliber firearm. So, I ran to the fence and asked him if he was ok and he said, 'no, I think I've been shot, so I immediately called 911 and responded to his aid," said next-door neighbor Marvin Wilson.
Police say the suspected gunman got away and was wearing a black hoodie. No other description was available.
Witnesses told police they heard one gunshot, which was highly unusual.
"I thought it was a little strange. I didn't know if it was just to prove a point or if it was something else.. because from I'm familiar with, if it's going to be a shooting it's going to be more than one shot, but it's like one shot and maybe he saw me running towards the fence and he just ran off but it was just one shot," said Wilson.
The man was taken to the hospital and is expected to be okay.
No arrests have been made.
