On July 4, 1776, the Continental Congress came to an agreement and approved the Declaration of Independence in a unanimous vote. But it took almost 100 years for Congress to declare July fourth a national holiday. Since then we have always set aside this day to celebrate the day the United States made its claim to be a free and independent nation.

ARKLATEX (KSLA) - Today, the 4th is a day to proudly wave our flag and celebrate those freedoms and remember that it is those freedoms that bind us together as a people.

I am very proud and thankful that I am live in this country and cannot imagine living anywhere else in the world.

While you are out celebrating this holiday you may encounter some of our neighbors from Barksdale. Please thank them for their service and remember they are working hard to protect our freedom every day. Happy 4th of July.
