SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - A Shreveport man will face sentencing in August all because he didn't register as a sex offender.

George Benjamin Franklin, 40, was convicted during a bench trial of "violation of reporting laws following a conviction for sex crimes". Meaning, Franklin failed to register as a sex offender, as required by law for prior convictions.

Franklin was previously convicted of attempted molestation of a juvenile and no sex offender ID card.

He faces a sentencing range of up to 20 years if prosecuted under the habitual offender statute, which according to the Caddo Parish District Attorney's Office, is being contemplated by the state for other felony convictions.

Evidence was heard of Franklin's prior convictions.
