Drought conditions continue to worsen across much of the ArkLaTex. Some improvement occurred around the I-30 corridor in the last week due to heavier rainfall there late last week and over the weekend, but elsewhere rain wasn't substantial enough to keep the drought from getting worse.
The area of severe drought that covered parts of the northern ArkLaTex last week was trimmed back a bit, but moderate drought remains in place in these areas. Farther to the south severe drought has developed around the I-20 corridor including the Shreveport metro. Slight to moderate drought covers the remainder of the ArkLaTex.
In the short term we're likely to see quickly worsening conditions in the next few days as very hot temperatures and mostly sunny skies quickly dry out the soil moisture.
Rain chances make a return next week, but through Wednesday the wet weather will be isolated to scattered in nature with only a half an inch of rain or less expected on average.
