(KSLA) - A teenager who recently moved from Shreveport was killed and her mother was wounded in a shooting in Georgia.

They were shot about 5:48 p.m. Wednesday while they were in a vehicle at South Candler Street at Midway Road in Decatur, police said.

JaNae Owens, 17, and her mother both were taken to a hospital.

Owens died.

Authorities said the mother's wounds are not life-threatening.

Her name has not been released.

Another person who was in the vehicle was not wounded, police said.

People acquainted with the family identified her to KSLA News 12 as the teen's twin sister and said she was in the back seat at the time of the shooting..

The twins moved to the Atlanta area about five weeks ago; otherwise, they would have been seniors this fall at Captain Shreve High in Shreveport, the acquaintances said.

Now Decatur police are trying to identify and apprehend the gunman.

They are sharing a photograph of a black Chrysler 200 or 300 he last was seen driving south on South Candler Street.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is assisting Decatur police with the investigation.
