The weekly drought update released Thursday morning shows continued drought conditions across the ArkLaTex. Drought is most severe near and north of the I-20 corridor. A small area of 'Severe' drought has showed up along the Red River along the Oklahoma/Texas border stretching into southern Arkansas.

The drought update does NOT include rain received since Tuesday. Welcome rain did blanket much of the ArkLaTex from Wednesday into Thursday, but for most areas rain totals were around an inch or less.

Across the far northern ArkLaTex rain totals were better with some areas picking up as much as two to four inches of rain. We may see some reduction in the drought in the next update across this area.

For the remainder of the ArkLaTex it's possible that drought conditions may worsen a bit as primarily hot and dry conditions will likely prevail by the end of the weekend and through much of next week.
