SULPHUR,LA (KSLA) - On Saturday morning the Benton Tigers won their first ever baseball state title over Deridder.

The Tigers won the title game 13 to 2.

Benton pitcher Turner Toms was outstanding on the mound for the Tigers. He struck out eight batters and only gave up 2 runs on 3 hits.

The inning that changed everything for Benton was the third, where the Tigers put up 7 runs and took the 8-0 lead.

"I knew we were going to win. I just believed in our guys and knew if I did my job they would pick me up in the end," Toms said.

Head Coach JD Stephens has been with the program for a long time and says this win is for everybody that has ever been a part of the program.

"Benton has fought for this for years even long before I ever got to the program, it dates back to when Coach Thrash started the program," Stephens said. "It's built on a firm foundation and I'm proud to be apart of it."
