Five Below coming to town

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - Is a Philadelphia-based retailer with more than 600 stores opening one in Shreveport?

A sign at Eastgate Shopping Center on East 70th Street indicates Five Below is moving in.

However, that location is not listed on the company website as being among 100 stores to be opened this year.

And an employment ad seeking to hire a manager for a Shreveport store was posted 15 days ago on the job-networking and job search website Linkedin.com.

Yet the position is not among those listed on Five Below's website.

For the time being, people in Shreveport must drive about 100 miles to Tyler, Texas, to shop at Five Below.

One of the managers there says the website's lack of a job advertisement could mean that someone's already been hired to manage the Shreveport store.

And at last report, the Tyler store manager says, the Shreveport store is targeted to open in late May or early June.

Five Below bills itself as "the coolest brand on the planet."

But, no, it has nothing to do with temperature.

"We only sell the coolest, trendiest, high-quality products preteens and teens really want, all at $5 and below," the company's employment ads state.

Five Below has more than 600 stores in 32 states. Those include 70 that opened just last year.

The retailer that caters to preteens, teens and their parents generally carries an assortment of cell phone cases and chargers, remote control cars, yoga pants, graphic T-shirts, nail polish, footballs and soccer balls, candy and seasonal must-haves for Easter, Halloween, Christmas and more.
