Resident, prowler exchange gunfire; wounded teen treated

MILLER COUNTY, AR (KSLA) - A Miller County, Ark., resident exchanged gunfire with someone during an attempted burglary Saturday morning.

The same morning, a teenager showed up at a Miller County, Ark., hospital seeking treatment for a bullet wound.

Now Miller County, Ark., sheriff's deputies are investigating whether the two events are related.

The attempted burglary was reported about 4:40 a.m. Saturday by a resident in the 200 block of County Road 295, authorities said.

The resident told investigators that a prowler dressed in all black and wearing a ski mask was attempting to break into his home.

The two exchanged gunfire, and the would-be burglar fled on foot.

At 6:56 a.m. Saturday, deputies were told that a 16-year-old was at Wadley Regional Medical Center in Texarkana for treatment of a gunshot wound.

Deputies have not released the teen's identity nor his condition, but they did say his status is stable.
