DeSoto Parish sheriff's deputy killed in crash

DESOTO PARISH, LA (KSLA) - A DeSoto Parish sheriff's deputy was killed in a two-vehicle crash Thursday morning, as confirmed by the DeSoto Parish Sheriff's Office.
It happened just before 7 a.m on Highway 171 at Rives Road, north of Mansfield.
The preliminary investigation revealed a 2013 Dodge Challenger operated by 23-year-old Tarrius White of Grand Cane was entering the intersection of Rieves Road and US 171 when he was struck by a southbound 2012 Harley Davidson operated by 48-year-old Christopher Sharpley of Grand Cane.
According to Troop G public affairs officer Matt Harris, Sharpley was not wearing a DOTD approved helmet and sustained fatal injuries during the crash.
The deputy was driving a motorcycle at the time of the crash and was believed to be not on duty.
State Police Troop G is investigating the crash.
We do not know the extent of the other driver's injuries.
