SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - A blaze extensively damaged a Shreveport house and damaged the siding of a house next door after a car caught fire in a carport.

It happened at 6:05 p.m. Monday in the city's Hyde Park neighborhood, Caddo 911 dispatch records show.

A woman noticed her vehicle smoking shortly after arriving home in the 600 block of Kingridge Place then later saw fire underneath the car, a Shreveport Fire Department spokesman said.

She attempted to crank the vehicle to move it, but the car would not start.

At that point, the spokesman said, she notified others in the house and everyone got out safely.

Flames burned through the roof of the house between Yancey Place and Wyngate Boulevard then spread through the rest of the one-story dwelling, causing extensive damage, the spokesman said.

The heat also damaged the exterior of the house next door that stands about 10 feet from the carport where the fire started, the spokesman said.

Nineteen fire units responded. That number now is down to three.
