LSP: High speed, no helmet were factors in cyclist's death

SABINE PARISH, LA (KSLA) - A motorcyclist suffered a severe head injury and died in a wreck in Sabine Parish.

Louisiana State Police investigators say excessive speed and the failure to wear a helmet contributed to the Zwolle man's death.

The wreck happened about 11:40 a.m. March 21 on a gravel road off Eaves Lane in the Belmont community, the Sabine coroner's office reports.

Killed was 58-year-old Joey D. Skinner, of Zwolle.

He was driving a 1990 Harley Davidson north on Branson Lane at a high rate of speed when Skinner he lost control of the motorcycle after applying the brakes, said Master Trooper Daniel "Scott" Moreau, of state police Troop E.

"This action resulted in the Harley overturning, ejecting Skinner. The Harley then collided with Skinner."

Assistant Cororner Ron Rivers said Skinner was declared dead shortly after medical personnel arrived.

The results of routine toxicology tests are pending, state police report.

So far this year, Troop E has investigated 10 fatal crashes in which 13 people have died.
