TEXARKANA, TX (KSLA) - It seems simple and harmless enough.

People are being directed to say "Hey Siri 108" into their iPhone, authorities report.

However, it is an online prank.

And it could prove to be harmful to someone somewhere sometime.

"Because 1-0-8 is the emergency number in the United Kingdom, the iPhone will recognize it as an emergency call and connect you with 9-1-1," says a post by Texarkana, Texas, police.

So authorities are warning you and asking you to warn your children.

A bogus call through 1-0-8 means 9-1-1 operators might be unable to answer a real emergency call as quickly as they need to if they are busy with non-emergency calls, authorities say.

And if you ever mistakenly call 9-1-1, don't immediately hang up the phone.

"It's better to stay on the line and tell the 9-1-1 operator what happened," police say. "Otherwise, they will be trying to call you back or send an officer out to check that everything is OK there."
