SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - In observance of World AIDS Day, The Philadelphia Center in Shreveport is holding multiple events Dec. 1 to raise awareness.
"I think it's important to bring attention back to the fact that HIV is still with us and that it's not gone," said Chip Eakins, of The Philadelphia Center. "We have certainly come a long away with medications. It's a treatable chronic illness now."
One of those events included free HIV testing from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Centenary College.
The free event was not just for students. Everyone was invited to get tested.
The center also is showing the local documentary "Small Town Rage" during a gathering from 5 to 8:30 p.m. at the Marjorie Lyons Playhouse. The screening includes free food.
