MARSHALL, TX (KSLA) - The woman killed while crossing a street in Marshall, Texas, was a resident of the East Texas city.
Marshall police today identified her as 48-year-old Jill Johnson.
She was crossing FM 31 near Elysian Fields Road about 7 p.m. Thursday when she was struck by a southbound vehicle.
Police said Johnson was wearing dark clothing.
Speed is not believed to have been a factor in Johnson's death, authorities have said.
And police do not expect to file any charge against the driver, who stayed at the scene after the wreck.
"This appears to be a tragic accident, and our thoughts and prayers are with the families affected," Police Chief Jesus "Eddie" Campa said in a brief statement released Thursday night.
"We strongly encourage pedestrians to wear bright or reflective clothing when traveling after dark, and urge motorists to remain alert while driving. Keeping our community safe is our top priority."
