MARSHALL, TX (KSLA) - Police are investigating a crash that killed a pedestrian in Marshall Thursday evening.
It happened around 7 p.m. on FM 31 near the intersection Elysian Fields Road. Police say a woman wearing dark clothing was struck by a southbound vehicle as she was crossing the road. The driver of the vehicle that struck the woman did not leave the scene and speed is not believed to be a factor in the crash.
No names have been released, pending notification of the victim's family.
The crash is under investigation, but police say charges are not expected for the driver.
"This appears to be a tragic accident and our thoughts and prayers are with the families affected," said Chief Jesus "Eddie" Campa in a brief statement released Thursday night. "We strongly encourage pedestrians to wear bright or reflective clothing when traveling after dark and urge motorists to remain alert while driving. Keeping our community safe is our top priority."
