He last was seen leaving a friend's home on Saturday.
"The manner of death is under investigation, and an autopsy is planned," says a statement from the coroner's office. "Foul play is not suspected."
McMullan's body was discovered in the river near Clyde Fant Memorial Parkway and Lake Street.
It's not yet clear how long he had been in the water.
