VA now offering free flu shots to ArkLaTex veterans

(KSLA) - With the approach of influenza season, Overton Brooks VA Medical Center in Shreveport is offering free flu shots to veterans at its facilities in Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas.

The flu immunization effort gets underway as early as the afternoon of Sept. 21 at some locations.

The flu shots are being given to enrolled veterans during scheduled clinic appointments and special walk-in and drive-through clinics.

Walk-in flu shot clinics are held from 1 to 3 p.m. on select dates at Overton Brooks VA Medical Center in Shreveport and VA community-based outpatient clinics in Monroe, La., Texarkana, Ark., and Longview, Texas.

No appointment is needed. But veterans must bring their VA identification card.

SCHEDULE

Louisiana
WHERE: Overton Brooks VA Medical Center, 510 E. Stoner Ave. in Shreveport.
WHEN: every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday except federal holidays Sept. 28-Nov. 16.
NOTE: Check in at the 1South4 reception desk at the front entrance of the south wing.

WHERE: community-based outpatient clinic, 1691 Bienville Drive in Monroe, La.
WHEN: Every Wednesday except federal holidays Sept. 21-Dec. 14.

For those who want or need curbside service, there will be a drive-through flu shot clinics from 8 a.m. to noon Sept. 24, Oct. 1, Oct. 8 and Oct. 15 in the front circle of the main facility at Overton Brooks VA Medical Center, 510 E. Stoner Ave. in Shreveport.

Veterans also can receive a flu shot by:

  • reporting to their assigned primary care clinic as a walk-in patient, or,
  • contacting their local participating Walgreens pharmacy.
