SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - Shreveport police detectives have charged a man who they believe is responsible for robbing a discount store Tuesday afternoon.
Authorities say it happened around 12:30 p.m. at the Family Dollar in the 2600 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive (Louisiana Highway 3194). That's between Stanley and Linear streets.
According to police, preliminary reports suggest that two men walked into the business and one of the thieves jumped over the counter and removed money from the cash register. While that was taking place, the second man held the clerk at gunpoint.
As patrol officers arrived on the scene, they reportedly saw the two armed bandits running from the business.
During their pursuit, officers were able to catch one of the suspects, 17-year-old Defreddrick Goree, a short distance away, but the second man eluded police.
Police say the suspects left a trail of cash while fleeing from authorities.
The stolen loot was returned to the business.
Goree was booked into the Shreveport City Jail and charged with a single count of armed robbery.
The search continues for the second bandit.
