Body found behind Texarkana business by man mowing grass
TEXARKANA, TX (KSLA) - Police in Texarkana,Texas, are trying to identify a woman's body found Friday morning by a man mowing the lawn around a local business.
It was behind a red building in the 3100 block of South Lake Drive near Robinson Road.
Ortha Cromer told KSLA News 12 that an odor led him to the discovery just before 11 a.m. He spotted the body as he turned a corner around the building.
"It was probably about 20 feet away from me. I turned and come back and got away from it."
The 90-year-old said it was the first and, hopefully, the last such discovery of its kind in the 20 years he's been mowing lawns for income.
"I never did want nothing like this. No, I don't like this kind of experience."
A vacant building in the 3100 block of South Lake Drive was to be the second and last stop of the day for Cromer and his daughter.
"And he wanted to stop here and mow," Phyllis Sorrow said. "And I think it was God's will that we stopped here because of the body. I don't see anybody else to be walking around here like that."
Based on the condition of the body, police believe the woman's body had been there for some time.
Authorities are not saying whether the death is believed to be from natural causes.
"There are no immediate signs of foul play at this time," Texarkana, Texas, police Sgt.Geoff Lewis said. "But it is being investigated as a death investigation by our department."
Authorities have released no details about the age or race of the body.
The body has been sent to Dallas for an autopsy to help authorities determine the identity and cause of death.
