CADDO PARISH, LA (KSLA) - The Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office is warning the public about another scam where residents are told to pay a certain amount of money to receive a larger amount.

According to deputies, a Keithville resident was contacted by phone and told she won $2 million, but needed to pay $999 on a gift card in order to claim her prize.

Bank officials alerted the sheriff's office when the victim went to the bank to withdraw money to purchase the gift card.

Sheriff Prator is reminding residents that if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

"If something seems fishy, contact the Caddo Sheriff's Office Financial Crimes Unit to check it out. Never give money to a stranger who has contacted you on the phone with get-rich-quick promises."
