GREENWOOD, LA (KSLA) - Experts say there are ways people can be aware and protect themselves from alligator attacks like the one in Florida.
So, we went to Gators and Friends in Greenwood for some advice.
"I would consider most of the water ponds, lakes, rivers around here to be inhabited by alligators. The way alligators usually hunt, they usually hunt at night.
They're real stealthy hunters and they usually try to catch a small animal as they come down the bank of the river," explained Jim Willett with Gators and Friends.
The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says they receive more than 2,200 nuisance alligator complaints annually.
