Wrecks cause traffic headaches for Shreveport area motorists

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - At least 3 wrecks caused headaches this morning for motorists on rain-soaked interstates in Shreveport-Bossier City.

An accident about 6:40 a.m. blocked the center and right-hand lanes on northbound Interstate 49 between the Pierremont Road and Kings Highway exits, the state highway department reports. Both lanes have since been reopened.

At one point, traffic was backed up for about 2 miles. As of 8:14 a.m., congestion had reached East 70th Street, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development. It now is backed up to Pierremont Road.

Meantime, all lanes of eastbound Interstate 20 now are open at the bridge over Red River. But traffic remains backed up to Common Street due to an accident at 7:43 a.m. that had blocked the right-hand lane of eastbound I-20 at Spring Street.

There also was a wreck at 7:55 a.m. on Interstate 220 at North Market Street.

There's no word as yet from authorities on how the accidents happened nor whether anyone was hurt.
