Dead child's parents transferred to Caddo Correctional

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - The parents of a toddler who died this week now are being held in Caddo Correctional Center, where they were transferred Saturday evening.

Brandy Lynn Shackelford, 32, of Shreveport, was booked into the lockup at 7:02 p.m. May 28 on 2 counts of cruelty to juveniles. No bond has been set.

Bond has been set at $15,000 for Richard Oliver Mallott Jr., a 42-year-old Shreveport man who was booked into Caddo Correctional at 7:26 p.m. May 28 on 1 count of possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance.

Shreveport police investigators have yet to say whether their arrests are related to the death of 2-year-old Richard "Ricky" Mallott III.

Sources close to the investigation told KSLA News 12 that paramedics came to a home in the 6900 block of Buncombe Road on Thursday to check on the injured boy.

One of the child's grandmothers said she called 911 late Thursday night after finding the boy unresponsive at her home hours after his father had dropped him off there.

The child was taken to Willis-Knighton Hospital in Bossier City and later transferred to University Health in Shreveport, where he died from his injuries.

Police questioned then arrested Shackelford. She was booked into Shreveport City Jail at 5:27 p.m. May 26 on a charge of domestic abuse battery and 2 counts of cruelty to a juvenile, booking records show.

Richard Mallott Jr. was booked into Shreveport City Jail at 12:32 p.m. May 27 on 1 count of possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance.
