SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - Shreveport police are investigating a shooting in Cedar Grove that left a man dead.

Police were called to the 400 block of West 74th street near Linwood and Bernstein Avenue just after 11 p.m. Tuesday.

When they arrived, 23-year-old Javonte Taylor was inside of a house dead from gunshot wounds to the upper body.

Police say Taylor was in the house when he and other people in the house got into an argument and at some point someone pulled out a weapon and fatally shot him.

"This is a senseless tragedy. We have a young man who's lost his life tonight, I'm sure, over nothing that's even worth it," said Cpl. Marcus Hines on the scene of the shooting. "We're talking about a life that can't be replaced. We're talking about grieving family members. So this is something that is senseless and needs to stop."

Officers got a search warrant and found a sizable quantity of suspected narcotics inside the home packaged for sale. Police believe illegal drugs were sold from the house.

Investigators are interviewing witnesses and working to find anyone who may have been involved. Based on continuing investigation, police say the killing does not appear to be random.

No suspect descriptions were immediately available.

Police are asking anyone with any information about the crime to contact Crime Stoppers at (318) 673-7373.  Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,0000.00 reward for information leading to the arrest of those responsible for this crime.

The shooting comes just hours after a city-wide rally to 'stop the violence.'
