SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - The body found in Cross Bayou Wednesday morning has been identified as 36-year-old Jeremy Burks of Shreveport.

The body was found by a surveying crew near the intersection of North Hearne Avenue and Aero Drive around 11 a.m.

According to the Caddo Coroner's Office, Burks was identified through clothing and jewelry, as well as two tattoos that matched a description from a missing person report. Next-of-kin reached included Burks' stepfather and sister.

The remains, which appeared to have been in the bayou for some time, were recovered by Caddo coroner's investigators with the assistance of the Shreveport Fire Department and the Caddo Sheriff's Office marine unit.

Burks was reported missing by his family on March 3, 2016. He was last seen fishing in Twelve Mile Bayou near the intersection of Ford St. and Ernest B. Miller Dr.

Though there were no obvious signs of trauma or foul play, the investigation continues to provide scientific identification of the remains. An autopsy has been ordered and will be performed Thursday morning at University Health.
