SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - Elijah Wong, 2, and 7-year-old Donnie Simmons are back home with their fathers.

Ramone Mercadel, Elijah's father, says the journey wasn't an easy one.

A nationwide search was launched after the 2 half-brothers were taken from their Shreveport homes Jan. 12.

Shreveport police allege that their mother, Antonette Wong, and her boyfriend Keith Rogers took the boys on the run with them after a string of bank robberies.

"He said Daddy. He was just so excited to see me," Mercadel recalls of the moment Elijah saw him for the first time in nearly a month.

Mercadel had to fill out a bunch of paperwork and fly to Arizona to pick up his son after Wong and Rogers were arrested and the children were taken into protective custody.

"Had to get in touch with the boys home that had him," Mercadel said. "They brought him to me about 2  or 3 hours after I was there."

Now that Elijah is back home, Mercadel said he isn't letting him out of his sight. "They've been through a lot, but they are back to life now."

Wong and Rogers remain in jail in Pinal County, Ariz., and have waived their extradition rights.
