3 men indicted for federal kidnapping conspiracy in ETX, NWLA

TYLER, TX (KSLA) - Two ArkLaTex men are waiting to go before a federal judge for kidnapping-related charges, while a court date for a third man has not been set.
Cory Carnell Mitchell, 27, of Tenaha, Texas, 21-year-old Gary Eugene Cutright, of Zwolle, Louisiana, and 35-year-old Quannell Newton of Many, Louisiana, each faces 1 count each of kidnapping, conspiracy to commit kidnapping and possession of a firearm during a violent crime.
Newton will go before a judge Jan. 28. Cutright's court date is Jan. 29. No court date was available for Mitchell.
According to the indictment Jan. 20, the men put a plan together in December to kidnap someone and transport them from Louisiana to Carthage, Texas. The victim reportedly was shot twice during the kidnapping and survived.
All 3 face life in prison if convicted of kidnapping and a minimum of 10 years on the firearms charge.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Paul A. Hable in the Eastern District of Texas.
The FBI, U.S. Marshals Service and several police departments and sheriff's offices helped with the arrests. They include police departments in the East Texas cities of Center and Carthage and sheriff's offices in Panola County, Texas, and the Louisiana parishes of DeSoto and Sabine.
