UPDATE: Police catch suspect in robbery of bank, gas station
SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - A man is in jail in connection with the robberies of a bank and a gas station in west Shreveport.
Edward Parker, 51, was arrested just after 1:30 p.m. Jan. 16 at a gas station/convenience store in the 6900 block of Bert Kouns Industrial Loop in Shreveport, Shreveport police Cpl. Marcus Hines said.
Parker has since been booked into Shreveport City Jail on 2 counts of first-degree robbery and other unrelated warrants.
He is accused of robbing a BancorpSouth Bank branch in the 6800 block of Pines Road just before 1 p.m. Jan. 15.
That's when a man who showed no sign of having a gun or other weapon handed a teller a note demanding cash from the drawer then fled with an undisclosed amount of money. He last was seen headed west on West 70th Street in a red, 2-door Pontiac with a spoiler on the trunk.
Parker also is accused of robbing the Triple J gas station in the 8900 block of Mansfield Road. That holdup happened just after 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
The person responsible for the Triple J robbery was described as a man wearing a flannel shirt and jeans, much like the man caught on surveillance video during the bank holdup the previous day, Hines said.
Police learned of Parker's alleged connection to the Triple J robbery when he was arrested Saturday afternoon for his alleged role in the bank robbery, Hines said.
