SPD: Dog reportedly shot during home invasion

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - Shreveport police are looking for a group of men accused of breaking into a home, firing shots and reportedly shooting a dog Tuesday night.

It happened just after 9 p.m. in the 100 block of East Herndon street in Shreveport's historic Highland neighborhood.

Police say a man went outside for a cigarette when 5 men grabbed him and threw him off his porch.

The woman inside the home told police the men barged into the house with a high powered assault riffle and a mix of handguns. During the invasion, the family dog allegedly attacked the men and they shot it, according to police.

The dog was seriously injured.

Police say the men left after shooting the dog without taking any items from the house.

The men were reportedly wearing hoodies and coveralls and their faces weren't covered.

The case remains under investigation.
